One of the first forms of compensation after an injury is temporary total disability. These benefits are developed to meet the needs of a worker who cannot perform his/her job because of the injury.
If seven or fewer days of work are missed, the worker’s medical expenses will be covered. If eight or more days are missed, medical expenses and loss of wages will be awarded. Sometimes injuries may be more severe and cause the individual to be out of work for a long period of time. If this is the case, the BWC will create a weekly benefit rate based on wages earned and financially assist the injured worker. Once the individual returns to work, the benefits will cease.
In order to qualify for benefits, each worker must fill out the C-84 form and have physical evidence from a doctor documenting the injury.
